Unication G4/G5 Beta Test Firmware

I've been chosen to beta test firmware for the Unication G4/G5 pagers.  Will post my thoughts here.


The new beta test firmware includes a trunking system user defined scan list. This allows you to scan multiple trunk systems.   This feature does not work too well because getting the timing right for system scanning is impossible.  If you are on busy systems you will miss radio traffic.

I have figured out that the voice buffering must be disabled in order for the pager to function properly.  When the voice buffering is turned on certain radio traffic on the scanned talkgroups is echoed.

So the new version of the software will have some exciting features such as system scanning and multiple system scan per channel knob.  Unication is still working on these features. No time frame is available that I know of.

Random Scanner Thought: Uniden

I was just wondering why Uniden abandoned the secondary 800mhz plug in antenna design that was popular on the 800xlt model.  I almost think that 800mhz reception on scanners would be better with the dual antenna design.  One designed for wide band vhf/uhf reception and the other for 700/800mhz reception.   Any thoughts?
